The DOU project, created as the final design project for a Master's in Visual Communications, is a branding initiative inspired by Japanese culture and design. Focused on mindfulness and meditative cleaning rituals, the project was showcased in a design exhibition.

The design embraces extreme minimalism, inspired by Japanese aesthetics and philosophy. with a focus on simple clean white spaces, subtle black typography and minimal elements to create a serene and intentional visual experience. This reflects the brands meditative approach and mindful values.








The Ritual

The DOU experience begins with a unique ritual that transforms cleaning into a mindful ritual.
By scanning a barcode that comes with each product, the user gets access to the DOU app, that guides the user through a video meditation guide towards mindful cleaning.
The three steps
These steps guide users through a meditative approach to cleaning,fostering mindfulness and clarity.
1. Breathe - through a meditative breathing session you begin your mindful cleaning.
2. Focus - you focus on the element and begin to find more clarity and concentration in the process,
3. Clean - you clean your mind and clear your intentions towards the physical cleaning.

The brand transforms everyday tasks into meditative practices, where simplicity and intentionality meet. Rooted in minimalism and Zen philosophy, DOU redefines cleaning as a path to clarity, balance, and connection with the present moment.
Meaning of DOU
Derived from the Japanese word for “how” or “why,” DOU invites us to reflect on our actions and intentions.
The name embodies a fundamental question: how and why do we approach our daily routines? DOU challenges us to find purpose and presence in even the simplest acts.

The App
Description
The app offers a simple, intuitive flow that helps users engage with the brand and create a mindful cleaning routine.
The app has three main features:
1. Main Feature: Ritual Video
The app’s core experience is the ritual video that guides users through the three-step cleaning meditation.
2. Guides & Articles
The app includes a section for helpful articles and cleaning guides. Here, users can find tips, inspiration, and the DOU philosophy.
3. Meditation Music Playlist
A playlist designed to accompany the meditation process. It features different sound frequencies (Hz) that are known to help influence brain waves, promoting calmness, focus, or relaxation during the cleaning ritual.
